What Hatha Is
"Hatha" technically refers to any yoga that involves physical postures — so all of our classes are technically hatha. But when most studios offer a "Hatha" class, they mean the traditional, slower version: foundational postures, held longer, with attention to alignment and breath.
What a Hatha Class Feels Like
- Length: 60 minutes
- Pace: Moderate — slower than Vinyasa, faster than Yin
- Postures: Foundational shapes (Mountain, Down Dog, Warriors, Triangle, Tree, Pigeon), each held 5-8 breaths with alignment cues
- Effort: Moderate. You will work but not be exhausted.
- Best for: Students new to yoga, students returning after a break, anyone who wants to refine their foundation
Why It Is a Great Starting Point
Vinyasa moves fast — if you do not know the postures yet, you can feel lost. Hatha holds each shape long enough for you to find it, feel it, and understand the alignment. Many students take Hatha for their first few months, then add Vinyasa once they feel confident in the basics.
